Journey Through Slavery Pt 4

I believe with what David Walker believed that they had a right to live in America more than the whites because they worked hard to keep their nation alive. I also believe with him that the American were hypocrites with their ideas and they should abolish slavery. However, he wanted a rebellion and I would disagree with going that way.William Lloyd Garrison was brave for having his newspaper, the Liberator, and speaking of the sins of slavery. other abolitionist were brave as well to continue with their "moral suasion" in order for the southerns to be convinced of the bad slave holding had.

Fanny Kemble, the wife of Pierce Butler went into the island thinking that the slaves were being well taken care of. However, as she built up close relationships with the women she realized that the women had many miscarriages and many children had died. Over the time many women became sick due to chronic malaria sickening the mothers and children. It was horrible that have the children died before the age of sick. Slavery had a big impact on children because they were raised by the black slaves and befriended the black children

In Butler island, slavery had already lasted as long as the nation itself and it only made the family wealthier. In the year 1830, Pierce Butler was waiting to inherit, never saw plantation major butler was a signer of the constitution and helped write with the clause for the fugitive slave law. The majority of the men loyal to slavery were dominating in the courts, they helped prevent petitions from being read. At this time, there was about 2 million slaves because of the economic power it had in the South.

75 percent whites did not own slaves .
John c Calhoun,senator
Northerners depended on slavery
Andrew Jackson- indians were forced out of their land because of westward expansion which only demanded for more cotton and more slaves
Masters had power and law and Harriet Jacobs was determined to escape.
If slaves escaped the whites lost money and were therefore hunted by slave catchers
Free African Americans were a threat to slavery because they denounced racial bondage.
